What does the RankShield Shopify app actually do?

It defends two things at once from a single app: your cart and your advertising budget. On the cart it scores every order against the RankShield Network for the common fraud families, including card testing, stolen cards, account takeover, and chargeback or refund abuse. On the ad side it blocks invalid clicks before they charge your campaigns across Google, Microsoft, Meta and TikTok. It also handles AI shopping agents arriving at checkout, allowing verified agents through and blocking unverified bots. Every decision is recorded as a verifiable receipt rather than an opaque score.

Why does an SEO agency care about Shopify fraud?

Because we are usually the ones being paid to fill that cart. If we grow your traffic and a meaningful share of the ad budget is being drained by click farms, we have made you a worse deal than the report suggests. The same fraud economy runs both attacks: the networks pushing stolen cards through your checkout also run the bots hitting your campaigns. Treating them as one problem is honest about how the money actually leaks. We are also associated with RankShield, which is why we can say that plainly instead of selling you a tool we do not know.

Will it block real customers?

It is built not to, and that is the right instinct to have about any fraud tool. A blocked genuine buyer costs you more than a fraudulent order, because you lose the sale, the customer, and every future sale to that person. The app runs customer-safe by default: it scores in the background, keeps real checkouts frictionless, and reserves blocks for high-confidence fraud. If a fraud tool is not designed around that trade-off, it will quietly cost you more than it saves.

This is the part most fraud tools have not caught up to. AI agents are starting to arrive at checkouts on behalf of real buyers, and a blunt bot filter treats them the same as an attack. The app uses Web Bot Auth, built on RFC 9421 HTTP Message Signatures, which is a real IETF standard for cryptographically signed requests. An agent that signs its requests can be verified and allowed through; an unverified bot claiming to be a shopping agent is not. That distinction is going to matter more every quarter, and it is better to have it before you need it.
