# SEO for landscaping companies that know the local rules
Homeowners, HOA boards and property managers hire a landscaping crew from the map results and a website. We build the service-area profile, the review base and the pages that answer the questions a Naples buyer asks, including the fertilizer rules that apply here.

Landscaping SEO in Southwest Florida has a feature national templates tend to miss: the work is regulated, and the rules are local. Florida requires anyone applying commercial fertilizer to an urban landscape to hold a state limited certification, and the City of Naples and unincorporated Lee County ban nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer every summer. A landscaping website that shows it knows those rules gives a buyer something to verify, which a page of stock photos cannot. This page covers pricing, the compliance content that earns trust, the service-area setup, and the pages a landscaping site needs. It builds on our [local SEO](https://seoagencynaples.com/local-seo-services/) and [Google Business Profile](https://seoagencynaples.com/google-business-profile-optimization/) work, and the check below grades your visibility in about two minutes.

## How much does landscaping SEO cost?
In one line: landscaping SEO from us usually runs between about $1,500 and $5,000 per month, scaled to how many communities you serve and how crowded they are. A crew working one city sits near the low end; a company covering both Collier and Lee sits higher, because more ground takes more pages, reviews and citations. What moves the number is scope. A crew that mows and maintains in one city needs a sound Google Business Profile, a handful of service pages and a steady review process. A company offering installation, irrigation and fertilization across two counties needs a page for each service, genuine pages for the communities it serves, and more citations and reviews to compete across that ground.
We publish the range rather than hiding it behind a form, and you can see how engagements are structured on our [pricing page](https://seoagencynaples.com/pricing/). We do not sell per-lead plans or guaranteed rankings, because no one controls Google's results. The [free audit](https://seoagencynaples.com/free-seo-audit/) shows what your market actually requires before you commit to anything.

## Why does fertilizer certification belong on a landscaping website?
Because in Florida it is a legal requirement a buyer can check. State law is direct: "Beginning January 1, 2014, any person applying commercial fertilizer to an urban landscape must be certified under this section." (Source: [Florida Statutes s. 482.1562](https://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2025/482.1562).) The City of Naples adds a job-site rule: "All commercial fertilizer applicators are required to carry their current State of Florida Limited Urban Commercial Fertilizer Applicator Certification on them at all times when applying fertilizer." (Source: [City of Naples](https://www.naplesgov.com/naturalresources/page/fertilizer-use-and-maintenance-landscapes).)
That makes certification a trust signal with a paper trail. Say on your fertilization page that your applicators hold it, and keep it current: the statute says it "expires 4 years after the date of issuance," and recertification takes 4 classroom hours of continuing education, at least 2 of them on fertilizer best management practices. The certification rests on state-approved training, and the law adds that a person holding it "is not subject to additional local testing." (Source: [Florida Statutes s. 403.9338](https://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2025/403.9338).) A buyer can check that claim. Nobody can check "eco-friendly lawn care."
Lee County adds a business-level layer in unincorporated areas. Ordinance 08-08, as adopted, provides for registering professional landscaping businesses and says a business seeking to register "shall have at least one employee who is a Certified Professional Landscaper to qualify the Professional Landscaping Business." (Source: [Lee County Ordinance 08-08](https://www.leegov.com/bocc/ordinances/08-08.pdf).) The ordinance dates from 2008, so confirm the current registration process with the county before you describe it on your site.

- Myth A fertilizer certification lets a landscaping crew offer weed control and pest treatment too. Truth It does not. Florida s. 482.1562 says the limited urban fertilizer certification does not authorize "the application of pesticides to turf or ornamentals, including pesticide fertilizer mixtures." Advertise those services only if you hold the license that covers them.
- Myth Fertilizing is a year-round service in Southwest Florida. Truth Not in the City of Naples or unincorporated Lee County, where fertilizer containing nitrogen or phosphorus may not be applied from June 1 through September 30.

## What does the June 1 to September 30 fertilizer ban mean for your website?
It means a summer fertilization offer can advertise something the local rule prohibits. The City of Naples states: "No fertilizer containing nitrogen or phosphorus may be applied from June 1 through September 30." Unincorporated Lee County's ordinance says: "No person shall apply fertilizers containing nitrogen and/or phosphorus to Turf and/or Landscape Plants during the rainy season (June 1 through September 30 of each calendar year)." (Sources: [City of Naples](https://www.naplesgov.com/naturalresources/page/fertilizer-use-and-maintenance-landscapes); [Lee County Ordinance 08-08](https://www.leegov.com/bocc/ordinances/08-08.pdf).)
So write your summer content around what your program actually does during the ban, in your own program's terms, and say plainly that nitrogen and phosphorus are not applied in those months. Publish the dates on your fertilization page before June each year. A buyer who knows the rule reads that as a crew that follows it, and a buyer who does not learns it from you.

4 years Life of the Florida limited urban fertilizer certification before recertification
10 feet No fertilizer within this distance of any waterway in the City of Naples

## Why do fertilizer rules differ between Naples, Lee and Collier?
By design. Florida requires local governments in the watershed of a nutrient-impaired water body to adopt the state model fertilizer ordinance "at a minimum," and lets them adopt "additional or more stringent standards" where a science-based program shows they are needed. (Source: [Florida Statutes s. 403.9337](https://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2025/403.9337).) A crew that works across a city or county line can be under different rules on each side of it.
That is also what makes a community page useful rather than a doorway. A page that states the rule for the place it names tells the reader something a page with the city name swapped never could. Unincorporated Collier County has its own fertilizer and landscaping ordinance, which we have not summarized here; read the current text on the [county's ordinance page](https://www.collier.gov/County-Development/Transportation-Management/Pollution-Control/Fertilizer-and-Landscaping-Ordinance) before you publish anything about it.

## How do service-area landscapers rank in Google Maps?
Most landscaping crews work at the customer's property, which makes them a service-area business in Google's terms. Google lets you name the areas you cover, and the limit is specific: "You can set up to 20 service areas based on the cities, postal codes, or other areas you serve." (Source: [Google, manage your service areas](https://support.google.com/business/answer/9157481).) Collier and Lee together hold more places than that, so your list is a selection, and it should match where your trucks actually go.
The list sets coverage; it does not buy rankings. Google says "Local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity," and a Naples-based crew naturally ranks strongest near Naples. (Source: [Google, improve your local ranking](https://support.google.com/business/answer/7091).) Farther out you compete on relevance and on prominence, which the same Google page also calls popularity: accurate categories, a complete services list, consistent citations and a steady stream of real reviews. Our [Collier County](https://seoagencynaples.com/collier-county-seo/) and [Lee County](https://seoagencynaples.com/lee-county-seo/) pages cover how to choose those areas.

## Which pages should a landscaping website have?
One page per service you actually sell, because homeowners and property managers search for the job, not the company. Each page should say what the service includes, who does it, and any rule that applies to it here:

- Lawn maintenance and mowing, including how your crew keeps clippings off streets, sidewalks and driveways
- Fertilization, naming your certified applicators and publishing the June 1 to September 30 ban
- Landscape design and installation, with dated photos of finished projects
- Irrigation installation and repair
- Tree and palm trimming, if your crew does that work
- Weed and pest control only if you hold the license that covers it, since the limited fertilizer certification does not
- Genuine pages for the communities you serve that state the local rules, not one page with the city name swapped

## What local details should a landscaping page include?
The ones a local buyer recognizes and a template written for every market leaves out. The City of Naples says fertilizer and grass clippings "may not be left on impervious surfaces such as streets, sidewalks, or driveways," requires deflector shields "when broadcast spreaders are used," and says "No fertilizer may be applied within 10 feet of any waterway." (Source: [City of Naples](https://www.naplesgov.com/naturalresources/page/fertilizer-use-and-maintenance-landscapes).) A mowing page that says your crew blows clippings back onto the lawn, and a fertilization page that mentions the waterfront buffer, both show the reader you work here.

## How do seasonal residents and HOAs choose a landscaping company?
Often without meeting you first. A seasonal owner may hire a crew for a home they are not living in yet, and an HOA board or property manager compares several companies before a vote. Both decide from what they can see online: your reviews, your photos and whether your site answers their questions. We cover the timing of that seasonal demand in [snowbird season SEO in Southwest Florida](https://seoagencynaples.com/blog/snowbird-season-seo-swfl/).
Reviews do much of the work in that comparison, and they have to be real. Google's policies for business profiles prohibit fake engagement, so never buy, trade or gate reviews. (Reference: [Google, prohibited and restricted content](https://support.google.com/business/answer/7400114).) A simple ask after each finished job, with a direct link, is enough. We explain the federal rules on review requests in [getting more Google reviews within FTC rules](https://seoagencynaples.com/blog/more-google-reviews-ftc-rules/), and run the process through our [reputation management](https://seoagencynaples.com/reputation-management-services/) work.

## How long does landscaping SEO take in Naples?
Expect initial movement within three to six months, and longer to hold strong map positions in a crowded area, as your profile, pages and reviews accumulate. Starting before the months you most want calls gives new pages time to be crawled and settle. We will not guarantee a ranking or a lead count, because no one controls Google's results.
We build that visibility for crews serving [Naples](https://seoagencynaples.com/naples-seo/), [Marco Island](https://seoagencynaples.com/marco-island-seo/), [Bonita Springs](https://seoagencynaples.com/bonita-springs-seo/) and [Fort Myers](https://seoagencynaples.com/fort-myers-seo/), and we report on calls and booked jobs through transparent [reporting](https://seoagencynaples.com/seo-reporting-services/). - **How much does SEO for a landscaping company cost?** Our landscaping SEO usually runs between about $1,500 and $5,000 per month. Where you land depends on scope: a crew that maintains lawns in one city needs a sound Google Business Profile, a few service pages and a review process, while a company offering installation, irrigation and fertilization across Collier and Lee needs more pages, citations and reviews to compete. We publish the range, scope your number to your market, and sell no per-lead plans or ranking guarantees. The free audit shows what your market requires before you commit.
- **Should a landscaping website mention the fertilizer ordinance?** Yes, if you fertilize. Florida requires anyone applying commercial fertilizer to an urban landscape to be certified under s. 482.1562, and the City of Naples requires applicators to carry that certification whenever they apply. Naming your certified applicators and publishing the June 1 to September 30 ban shows a buyer you follow rules they can check. It also makes each community page genuinely local, because the rules can differ between a city and the county around it. Keep the certification current, since it expires four years after issuance.
- **Can I sell summer fertilization in Naples or Lee County?** Not with nitrogen or phosphorus fertilizer. The City of Naples bars fertilizer containing nitrogen or phosphorus from June 1 through September 30, and unincorporated Lee County's Ordinance 08-08 applies the same rainy-season dates to turf and landscape plants. Describe what your program actually does in those months in your own terms, and state the ban on the page. Unincorporated Collier County has its own ordinance, so read the county's current text before publishing anything about it. Publish the dates before June so buyers see them in time.
- **Does a fertilizer certification cover weed and pest control?** No. Florida s. 482.1562 says the limited certification for urban landscape commercial fertilizer application does not authorize the application of pesticides to turf or ornamentals, including pesticide fertilizer mixtures, or the operation of a pest control business. If your site advertises weed-and-feed or pest treatments, make sure you hold the license that covers that work. Advertising a service your certification does not authorize is a compliance problem before it is a marketing one. The statute is explicit on this point, so the fix is simply to check before you publish.
- **How many service areas can a landscaping business set on Google?** Up to 20. Google's help page says you can set up to 20 service areas based on the cities, postal codes, or other areas you serve. Collier and Lee counties contain more places than that, so choose the areas your crews actually work. The list defines coverage but does not buy rankings: Google weighs distance, so a crew competes farther from its base on relevance, reviews and citations instead of on the list itself. Pick the places where you want the work, not every town you could reach.
- **How long does SEO take for a landscaping company?** Initial movement usually shows within three to six months, and holding strong map positions in a crowded area can take longer as your profile, pages and reviews build. Starting before the months you most want calls gives new pages time to be crawled and settle. We will not guarantee a ranking or a lead count, because no one controls Google's results, and we report on calls and booked jobs rather than keyword screenshots. The free audit gives a realistic read on your market before you start.
